Aidan Del Bosque generated a big buzz in Thousand Oaks a couple of years ago when he created a “bee condo” for his first-grade class.

Now, that project has become the cornerstone to the city being named an official Bee City, making Thousand Oaks the only city in Southern California to be so certified.

And the bees are still alive and well, with the students at Bridges Charter School greeting them like long-lost friends when classes started last month.

It was two years ago when Aidan built a wooden structure for bees as his class assignment to work with a parent on a project that would help the community. Now a third-grader, Aidan, 8, recalled how his mother was enthusiastic about the project. continue reading
