The board of Bridges Charter School has selected a new executive director.

Kelly Simon, who currently heads up the writing center at Azusa Pacific University, was picked earlier this month from a field of 17 candidates to lead the K-8 school, one of three charters in Thousand Oaks.

“Kelly Simon was identified as a perfect fit for Bridges,” said Marcy Crawford, president of the charter’s board of directors, in a letter to the school community. “Kelly comes to Bridges with a wealth of knowledge and experience in instructional leadership, growth mind-set and whole-child education.”

Simon, according to a press release from the school, is a published author who began her career as a classroom teacher. She went on to teach future teachers as a professor in UC Santa Barbara’s teacher education program.
